Literacy Facts:

What is literacy? Literacy today means much more than the ablility to read and write. To succeed economically and socially, adults need the ablility to analyze information, understand abstract ideas and acquire many other complex life skills.

40% of adult Albertans and 35% of working age Albertans do not have the literacy skills they need to reach their own potential in our increasingly knowledge-based economy.
(International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey 2005, Statistics Canada.)

We need Tutors and Learners!

Imagine a parent who needs to give medicine to a child, but cannot understand the instruction on the medicine bottle. This situation is real for many people. The Edson Literacy program is actively recruiting volunteer tutors and learners. Learner's goals vary from learning to read, write, do basic math, learning to speak English, and much more.
